I have been working in engineering since 1984. In the early days my experience was mostly in designing low noise analog circuitry and high voltage power supplies for scanning electron microscopes. As I moved into the instrumentation industry my designs began to incorporate small microcontrollers. My designs became more complex combining low noise precision analog circuitry with multiple microcontrollers with RS-232 communication. Once my designs could communicate with a PC, I began to create applications to control them. Now in the works are designs which incorporate 32 bit microcontrollers with multiple communication ports.

Some of the projects I have worked on over the years include the following:

  • Optically coupled high voltage power supply designed to control a field emission source on a scanning electron microscope
  • Low noise, high speed, high voltage deflection amplifier used to control beam position on a scanning electron microscope
  • Instrumentation panel containing a tachometer, hour meter, fuel gauge and several warning indicators
  • High vacuum airlock control electronics designed to allow sample exchange under vacuum in manual or semi-automatic modes
  • High precision microstepping stepper motor control electronics package which provides up to eight axes of motion at the nano-meter/step level
